Plot Summary

A gripping, gut-wrenching thriller that delivers suspense in almost unbearable doses, "In the Line of Fire" showcases Clint Eastwood at his finest. In a performance that won universal acclaim, Eastwood stars as Frank Horrigan, a veteran Secret Service agent haunted by his failure to protect John F. Kennedy from assassination. Thirty years later, he gets a chance to redeem himself when a brilliant psychopath threatens to kill the current president and take Horrigan with him. Taunting him by phone and tantalizing him with clues, the assassin (John Malkovich) lures Horrigan into an electrifying battle of wits and will that only one man can survive. Co-starring Rene Russo as Horrigan's risk-taking Field Chief, "In the Line of Fire" is a high-wire balancing act of searing suspense, explosive action and surprising romance.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The most uproariously entertaining movie of the summer so far. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Aug 13, 2014

Fresh: In the Line of Fire is often an explosive blend of pounding tension and wisecracking humor. This is formula dished out by experts. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Jul 30, 2013

Fresh: Clint Eastwood has always been an old man. Even in the '60s, as the gunslinger in Sergio Leone westerns, Eastwood had the squinty eyes, sour mouth and weary walk of a soldier who had been in too many wars. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, Jul 30, 2013

Fresh: Director Wolfgang Petersen sends the story efficiently down its straight and narrow track, deftly engineering the battle of wills between two desperately committed men. – Todd McCarthy, Variety, Sep 30, 2010

Phenomenal suspense movie

This was a phenomenal suspense movie. A man (John Malkovich) threatens to kill the President, and makes it personal by targeting a particular Secret Service agent (Clint Eastwood) who has a painful past. It's a high-stakes thriller that keeps you guessing to the very end. It's well worth getting.

Brilliant Movie

this is a very good movie, its actors did an excellent job & viewers are kept on their toes till the last moments, i've sen this movie many times in the last 12 years, however, its preview does not give it justice as it shows none of the action going inside the movie... to iTunes Team: pls change the preview, thanks:)...
