Plot Summary
Academy Award winners Robin Williams, Al Pacino and Hilary Swank star in a thriller set in the land of the midnight sun, where a the mind of even a tough cop can be threatened by Insomnia. Under the glare of the permanent Alaska sun, two veteran Los Angeles police officers close in on their suspect in the murder of a teenage girl. But when officer Will Dormer (Pacino) accidentally shoots his partner, their murder suspect, reclusive novelist Walter Finch (Williams), witnesses the shooting--and blackmails Dormer. Now, as an idealistic local detective (Swank) investigates the case, and the stakes rise, Dormer's sanity begins to falter.

Fresh: The film represents a triumph of atmosphere over a none-too-mysterious mystery. Which is to say that Nolan makes you feel the end-of-the-earth bleakness of his setting, makes you feel the way it can discombobulate people once they internalize it.
Fresh: While it may not be as stylistically idiosyncratic as Memento Insomnia is a gripping, highly dramatic thriller that more than confirms the distinctive talent of young Brit helmer Christopher Nolan.
Fresh: Scene by scene, screenwriter Hillary Seitz follows director Erik Skjoldbjaerg's original closely, but this remake deepens and improves upon the Norwegian film by giving Dormer a more complex relationship with Eckhart.

Nolan, possibly the greatest director?
Simply amazing movie, i cannot give it enough praise. Al Pacino outdoes him self once again in this suspensful and eerie movie. I highly reccomend this movie to anyone who enjoys thriller/crime movies.
williams plays the most credible killer ever.
and pacino plays an insomniac detective and embodies it so well. Pacino best acting ever period.
