Plot Summary
Inspired by the mythology surrounding the highly controversial 1980 film, CRUISING, starring Al Pacino - in which, 40 minutes of sexually explicit material was forced to be cut out - filmmakers James Franco and Travis Matthews set out to re-imagine the lost footage. Assembling a mix of gay and straight men, including Val Lauren (THE SALTON SEA, LIVE FROM BAGHDAD) in the lead role, the result is a provocative exploration of the importance of the radical and transgressive in society and the value of engaging with the unfamiliar.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Simultaneously an act of creation and deconstruction.
Rotten: A partly authentic, partly scripted behind-the-scenes featurette that never quite conveys the star's "high/curious" interest in all things taboo.
Fresh: A cheerfully unsettling exploration of mainstream representations of male homosexuality.
Rotten: A particularly risible nothing whose premise alone betrays the paucity of Franco's imagination and wit.

Terrible
This is essentially a documentary of the recreation of a 40minute clip scene that we never get to see. A bunch of guys struggling or embracing the creation of this project full of gay eroticism... And talking about it, they even film it, but we never see the scene. Terrible movie and pointless. Don't fall for it like I did.
DO NOT BUY FROM ITUNES. IT IS CENSORED!
I saw this film in the theater and it was great! I also bought it on iTunes and it has been severely edited, completely ruining the point of the film! The intent of the movie is that gay sex should be shown in movies and this version has it completely edited out to supposedly sanitize it for the “Apple Store.”
Meh.
If there actually was a recreated “lost 40 minutes” made, that’s what I’d like to see. This documentary is not that. It reads almost like a really elaborate “Punk’d” pulled off by James Franco: let’s lure some actors into this and then film their reactions to it — especially the loudly-self-professed straight actors who come off as awkward and uncomfortable, and frankly, asshats.
