Plot Summary

A baker and his wife journey into the woods in search of a cow, a red cape, a pair of golden slippers and some magic beans to lift a curse that has kept them childless. Tony Award winners Bernadette Peters, Joanna Gleason and the rest of the original Broadway cast weave their magic spell over you in Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece, directed by James Lapine, a seamless fusion of fairy tale characters and what happens after "happily ever after." With oft-recorded songs such as "Children Will Listen" and "No One is Alone," "Into the Woods" is a music lover's delight from start to finish--and will forever cement Stephen Sondheim's unparalleled position as the giant of the American musical theater.

Sondheim at his best....witty, smart, sexy

I know..."sexy"? OOOOOO yes. Sondheim nails the underlying sexuality and danger of the fairy tale genre in this morality play/ musical and sends it up in such a way that you don't even know it's there. Gently boiling under the surface. BRILLIANT. But not better than ASSASSINS. But darn close.

Amazing, amazing, amazing after soooo long

I saw this movie for the first time around three years ago and was blown away completely. This is without a doubt one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Every single actor is amazing, my favorite characters being the Witch (Bernadette Peters, what else can I say?), Joanna Gleason as the Baker's wife, and Little Red Riding Hood. One of my favorite musicals!
