Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Here's an anomaly: a comedy about smart people.
Fresh: George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones square off deliciously, but this '30s-style battle of the sexes from the Coen brothers never catches fire.
Fresh: The Coen Brothers do provide enough of a diversion with bits and pieces of wacko casting, and with the deranged details of dress and makeup of their fleeting gargoyles, to make the proceedings at least moderately amusing.
Rotten: This dim-witted, mean-spirited and brain-dead calamity should surprise no one.

Favorite comedy of all time
Unbelievably funny, best lawyer send-up ever. You will really find this funny if 1) you are a lawyer or 2) have been divorced. It's hard to believe that someone could give this movie one star, but maybe my sense of humor is weirder than most. The Cohen Brothers are firing on all cylinders in this one. I think the chemistry between Clooney and Zeta-Jones is incredibly hot. And Billy Bob Thornton is hysterical. But the best of all is Clooney's lawyer pal, played by Paul Adelstein. Also amazing are Cedric the Entertainer, Edward Hermann, and Geoffrey Rush. There is not a weak character in this movie.
Great lines, lousy title
This movie sticks with you, has great, snappy dialogue and a super cast. Plot's a bit flimsy, it's not really about that - this movie delivers from the opening scene (brilliant G. Rush) to a great finale with Cedric all to the tunes of Simon & Garfunkel - brilliant
Just Not Very Good
Nothing wrong with Clooney or Jones, but the movie just isn't very good. It gets stuck somewhere between dark comedy and romantic comedy, but doesn't achieve either. It's as if they never really finished writing it, and so they wound up with this aimless story.
