Plot Summary

Invincible is the inspiring true story of Vince Papale, an ordinary guy who, against extraordinary odds, gets a one-in-a-gazillion shot at living every sports fan's wildest fantasy. Like the city he lives in and his beloved hometown NFL team, the down-and-out Vince (Mark Walhberg, The Italian Job) has seen better days. But then the Philadelphia Eagles' new coach Dick Vermeil (Greg Kinnear, Little Miss Sunshine) calls an unprecedented open tryout, and the 30-year-old bartender who never played college ball makes the cut. Now Vince needs every bit of his gritty, never-say-die attitude and enormous heart to survive in the high-stakes world of professional football. Heartfelt and triumphant, and filled with body-slamming NFL football action, Invincible will have you on your feet cheering for the scrappy underdog who helped his team rediscover its winning spirit, and in the process rallied a city when it needed it most.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: What's modestly refreshing about the way this story is told by director Eric Core and writer Brad Gann, is that the person with the largest doubts about going pro is Papele himself. – Richard Schickel, TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: It may not break new ground, but Invincible is an entertaining film, awash in cliches but leavened by the charismatic performance of Mark Wahlberg as Vince Papale. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Sep 1, 2007

Fresh: There's a sugar coating to the way Papale's story unfolds, but not so much that you'll spoil your dinner. – Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: The movie is shamelessly manipulative. – Ruthe Stein, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

an amazing movie!!!!! its really inspiring and a great movie. i reccommend if you like those feel good movies or true stories

Vince Papale is my friend.

After his NFL career, I had the pleasure of working with Vince when he became the Sports Director at my radio station. Everything you see Marc Wahlberg portray in this film rings true -- Vince as a regular guy, someone who'd stand up for a friend, a guy you'd want to share a beer with, someone you'd root for against all odds. "Invincible" does a wonderful job of telling Vince's story. As a lifelong Eagles' fan, I can attest that the city of Philadelphia truly embraced the "Rocky story" of Papale's unlikely rise from walk-on to Eagles' special team spark plug. By coincidence, I ran into Mark Wahlberg at an L.A. restaurant six weeks before this film was released in theaters. I introduced myself and told him about my relationship with Vince. Mark's smile lit up as he told me how inspired he was by Vince and how excited he was that his family was able to screen the film in New York, the week before, with Vince's family. With only a modest amount of Hollywood packaging, this story is a true account and an inspiration to all who invest the time to enjoy it. If you don't love this film, you must be a Cowboys' fan.
