Plot Summary

In a small fishing village off the coast of Maine, families have lived and worked the sea for generations. Eben Cole (Thomas Hildreth) continues his family’s legacy of harvesting lobsters, but after causing a tragic accident at sea, loses everything. He serves five years in prison and returns home an outcast, determined to win back the way of life he fought so hard to protect. His ex-wife Cheryl (Amy Jo Johnson of TV’s FLASH POINT, TV's FELICITY) wants nothing to do with him and other fisherman see him as a harbinger of bad luck. Only Popper (Philip Baker Hall of TV’s MODERN FAMILY, MAGNOLIA), an old, weathered, and gruff sailor, gives Eben a chance to become an Islander again.

Fresh: A small, plaintive, modestly made film about how one bad decision can wreck a life. – Wesley Morris, Boston Globe, Nov 24, 2011

Fresh: Unfortunately, the storyfollows too uninvolving a course to make the movie as powerful as it could have been. But that shouldn't stop audiences drawing satisfaction from its textures. – Desson Thomson, Washington Post, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: A noble entry into the real world of timeless and truly independent American cinema. – Ted Fry, Seattle Times, Jun 24, 2010
