Plot Summary

Tom Selleck returns as Paradise's anguished former Chief of Police, Jesse Stone, in his most gripping mystery yet. Cindy Van Aldan was like a daughter to Jesse. Now she's dead. Although all signs point to a suicidal drug overdose-a checkered history riddled with addiction, associations with homicidal mobsters and an involvement in prostitution-Jesse knows his friend better than that. This time it's personal, and Jesse will stop at nothing to avenge the lost innocence and subsequent death of the young girl he once mentored.

Customer Reviews

The only thing wrong is they aren't making enough of these

Slow, deliberate, melancholy and as the entire series is, completely captivating. Selleck has nailed every one of the Jesse Stone episodes so well it is astounding. This latest one once again shows excellent acting by a small cast, good tight scripting and spot-on directing. Perhaps not for everyone's taste, I'll admit, but it is difficult to really find any faults with the series, especially given the drivel out in Hollywood these days. Full marks all around.

Jesse Stone Innocents Lost

This movie is "dark". It shows the state of mind Jesse Stone is in at this stage in his life. It has revealed new issues for the character of Jesse. It also leaves many questions regarding "Suitcase's" decision and his future. I hope there are more movies in the future especially after this one. What will be Jesse's fate be and will his state of mind allow for deadly errors in the future? Plus, I thought Jesse's friends and contacts are not as supportive in this edition. It was very hard part for myself because I have had "friends" like this..there when you are on top distant during the hard times. I do like that the dog is addressed in this movie yet we are still left adrift.

I gave it four stars because it took a lot of work for Tom Selleck to bring out Jesse's state of mind. Not to mention all the work Mr. Selleck put in on the writing, directing, and production. It's definitely worth your time.

Selleck again delivers a classic, moody detective movie

In "Innocents Lost" Tom Selleck completely abandons the pretense that this is a "made for TV" movie in the sense that it reflects marketing studies that dictate the content of ratings driven television shows. Television detective shows typically follow a formula which can produce quality entertainment if done right. Magnum P.I. is an example: catchy theme, upbeat characters who always act predictably, a nominal plot (just enough to let the characters interact) and a neatly resolved conclusion (not knocking them and Magnum in particular had some great episodes which didn't follow the recipe). But whereas Magnum and other good shows for the time (the '70s) don't always age well except in the nostalgic sense this is a throwback to the gritty cop movies of the 70s, where the common elements were great male leads like Hackman and McQueen who played lonely heroes, where the soundtracks and settings were characters and the only guaranteed outcome was that the hero would maintain his nobility, if nothing else. Selleck has reached a level of stardom where he can make movies like this not only because he's Tom Selleck but because he has a hit series (Bluebloods) on a network with management smart enough to see the benefits of maintaining a long-term relationship with Selleck. This is an exceptional movie with great writing and direction, and a character, Jesse Stone, who is not certain of a lot of things but knows when evil has to dealt with, regardless of personal cost.
