Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Every so often there is a hand-to-hand fight scene to cut the boredom -- the best is set atop a precipitously high wooden tower in a village square -- but even these don't set themselves apart from anything we've seen before. – Gregory Kirschling, Entertainment Weekly, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: In Ronny Yu's sweeping film based on the life of wu shu master Huo Yuanjia, the retiring action star manages to tug a few heartstrings while breaking plenty of bones. – Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Boldly conceived and handsomely produced, Fearless emits the kind of idealized glow that used to define Hollywood movies. – Robert Denerstein, Denver Rocky Mountain News, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: The 43-year-old actor claims that this will be his last martial arts epic. That's too bad when movies like this and 2002's Hero find him just hitting his stride. – John Monaghan, Detroit Free Press, Jun 24, 2010

Not the version you are looking for

Great movie. However, the version seen here is inferior. The unrated version can be picked up as a physical Blu-ray copy (less video compression I may add) from a competitor for $11. iTunes is currently listing this one for $14.99 HD. The Unrated version runs for 141 minutes versus the one here at 103 minutes.

Apple did the same thing with the Lord of the Rings Extended Cut. However, because of the numbers of years that passed since they finally released Fearless, and that it's somewhat of niche title, I doubt an unrated version will ever come to light.

Solid martial arts actioner.

Aside from a few wire-fu moments, this film leaves you satisfied. It's what you would expect from Jet Li martial arts fight scenes, which rival some of his earliest movies. I'm a traditionalist in that I love martial arts movies that use real moves that don't require any wires. This one remains true the majority of the time.
