Plot Summary

In "one of the most unexpected and inspiring movie pairings in recent memory (The Village Voice),"; Jimmy P stars Academy Award® winner Benicio Del Toro and Mathieu Amalric in a true story about two very different men who build a unique and powerful bond through psychotherapy. A WWII vet plagued by excruciating headaches, dizzy spells, hearing loss and bizarre dreams, Jimmy Picard (Del Toro), a Native American Blackfoot, is labeled schizophrenic by a military hospital confused by his condition. Enter French anthropologist and Native American researcher Georges Devereux (Amalric), called in by the hospital to make sense of their baffling patient. Through increasingly vivid conversation, Picard and Devereux develop a compelling friendship as they embark on an exploration of Jimmy's memories and dreams, an experiment they conduct like a couple of detectives in this intelligent and extraordinarily moving film from Arnaud Desplechin (A Christmas Tale, Kings and Queen).

Benicio The Great

Seeing these two actors together is a kick. Wow. And the movie has a modest, natural charm.
But really, even though saying who's the best is a teenager game, is there a better living screen actor than Benicio Del Toro? JPhoenix perhaps. But geez, Del Toro packs as much wallop. He's absolutely great in this movie. He's so present and honest and sad and funny. Bravo Benicio.

Well acted, insightful and moving

Rented this because I love Benecio and Amalric and it doesn't disappoint. Wish I knew more about the psychoanalysis but this is what I would think it is all about - great story, great performances, definitely worth the time.

Profound

I must admit I will watch any movie with Benicio del Toro. The man deserves more leading roles like Jimmy P., since he always ends up bursting out of his supporting roles and becoming the most memorable part of the film. He never disappoints, and Jimmy P. is a fine example. I also walked away having thoroughly enjoyed Mathieu Amalric's performance-his character's charm and quirky warmth was a nice sounding board to Benicio's pained and melancholy Jimmy P. Watch this, even if you can only sit through it once. I promise it will stay with you.
