Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The film belongs to Cage. You can feel his compassion as Joe defies the reduced options of his life. There's not an unfelt moment in Cage's performance. Or in the movie. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Apr 11, 2014

Fresh: For Nicolas Cage, whose dumb, rant-for-hire projects have lately been making audiences forget how good he can be, Joe is more than a rescue - it's a re-birth. – Bob Mondello, NPR, Apr 11, 2014

Fresh: If you've missed Nicolas Cage and the special qualities he brings to movies, "Joe" is a good place to get reacquainted. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Apr 10, 2014

Fresh: Poulter's intensity matches Cage's, note for note. The frightening verisimilitude of his portrayal lends the film a cinema verite realism that nicely mutes some of Cage's star power. – Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post, Apr 10, 2014

Phenomenal

Great performance from Nic Cage, and most definitely his best film since Bad Lieutenant. The storyline itself is gripping and keeps you interested till the very end. A must see for any fan of Nic Cage or thriller/drama films with a twist. A must see!

Really great. Worth seeing.

You have to pay attention to understand the slang dialogue. Mostly the actors mumble, slur their words and don't talk in complete sentences. But you can follow along if you try. Our hero is not as great as your average man but in this movie he is the boss.

Welcome back!

Good movie. ALMOST forgot that it was Cage that I was watching. 'Heroic' gesture. Rock on, Nic!
