Plot Summary

From John Carpenter, the master of horror behind 1998's hit John Carpenter's Vampires and classics like The Thing and Halloween, comes a sci-fi thriller full of explosive action and bone-chilling suspense. Natasha Henstridge (Species) is Melanie Ballard, a headstrong police lieutenant on Mars in the year 2025. Humans have been colonizing and mining on the red planet for some time, but when Ballard and her squad are sent to a remote region to apprehend the dangerous criminal James "Desolation" Williams, played by Ice Cube (Three Kings), they discover that he's the least of their worries. The mining operations have unleashed a deadly army of Martian spirits who take over the bodies of humans and won't stop until they destroy all invaders of their planet. With a stellar cast including Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), Jason Statham (Snatch) and Clea Duvall (The Faculty), as well as explosive special effects, John Carpenter's Ghost of Mars is an intergalactic terror fest like you've never seen.

Rotten: A tired and dispiriting affair that takes forever to get going. – Bob Graham, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 18, 2002

Good MOvie

I like john carpenters movies and he did pretty good on this one

Ya make em like this

Lets face it , John Carpenter likes to pinch a penny, that's why this movie is off the hook ! Limited area, small but tight cast, crazy action and those martians...Straight Gangsta ! F*** what you heard ! John Carpenter could make a movie in a Closet !

one that i had missed- wish i still had

To avoid an unfair high aggregate review score i am posting. The film is posed as a retrospect narration- which is droll, and tedious. Plot is limited for the duration to a small group of martian police trying to escape a possessed mining town. Scenery is limited to a few buildings and interiors and does not vary for the entire film. Script is limited and acting passable at best. Action sequences are repetitive. Not a satisfying tale at all with a cryptic ending. Most of the film is predictable and the gore scenes, of which there are few - sub B- movie standard. No real upside to renting and certainly no point in owning. redeeming parts? none, except if you want to take a nap while having something on.
