Plot Summary
Beckoned by tales of economic prosperity, a Turkish family leaves their meager existence and sets off on a grueling journey to Switzerland. Along the way, they fall victim to scams and unscrupulous smugglers who abandon the émigrés in the Alps. With no one to guide them, they must scale the final 3,000 feet in a nightmarish blizzard. Director Xavier Koller's unrelentingly tragic docudrama captured the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
