Plot Summary

A house with a terrifying secret is the setting for this Japanese horror film. A young nurse arrives at a house to find that two brutal murders have taken place, and now the house is cursed - exacting revenge on all who set foot in it. The nurse may be next in a long line of bloody deaths, as the vengeful spirits set out to make things right, once and for all.

This is the original; "The Grudge" is a remake.

For the Rhodes scholars posting on here who think this is the Japanese "or Chinese" remake of The Grudge, no, it is not. Ju-On came out in 2000. The Grudge is the American remake of Ju-On. It came out in 2004. This movie is unbelievably creepy, and if you're someone who has trouble getting disturbing visual images out of your head, you probably want to skip this.

This isn't original, actually.

There was a Straight-to-video release in Japan called Ju-on:The Curse, it came out in 2000. That was the original. This is another remake. The whole timeline goes as 2000:Ju-on:The Curse, Ju-on:The Curse 2. 2003 Ju-on:The Grudge(This movie, many call it the original because Ju-on:The Curse and Ju-on:The Curse 2 were never released in the states, only in Japan and Scandanavia)Ju-on:The Grudge 2,2004:The Grudge.2006:The Grudge 2,In devlopement:Ju-on:The Grudge 3,The Grudge 3(Confirmed to be last in American version of series.) But this movie, in my opinion, is probably the 2nd best in the entire series(1st is Ju-on:The Grudge 2).

Great for beginners?

If you're going to spend time watching the American version of this movie, don't. That's nothing compared to Ju-On. Reviewers say that the story is the same, but it's not.
