Plot Summary

Based on Darwyn Cooke's award-winning graphic novel, this thrilling adventure reveals the origin of the Justice League. With Cold War paranoia putting Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman under government suspicion, only the gravest threat imaginable can force these heroes - along with an army of newcomers including The Flash, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter - to unite in a spectacular showdown to save the world.

A Fun "Origins" Tale

I liked this movie. It is a well done comic-book to cartoon translation. From a negative perspective, while there is some character development -- it is limited by the fact that the movie must introduce all of the Justice League characters, so character development is a mile wide and an inch deep. The "menace" that acts as the movie's antagonist almost seems like an after thought. The menace "Center" only shows itself at the movie's last 20 minutes, and it's origins do not make much sense. However, from a positive perspective, the plot moves along at a nice clip. A few of the characters get a good degree of focus -- Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and the Martian Manhunter get a good bit of time for character development -- not enough, but acceptable. All in all, this is a fun flick, and it is certainly worth the price of the rental.

Overall good movie, with a few flaws here and there

First off, this is a fairly comprehensive review which may be longer the some, but none the less you should read it. I had heard about this comic book series a while back and had wanted to get more interested. It had gotten very good reviews and I was interested in reading it. I was very pleased to find it as a movie on iTunes to rent! I was also very pleased with the actual visual quality of the rental. The movie was well put together with a strong plot line and gripping story. There are a few flaws with the movie I would like to mention first before I move onto the positives. My first problem is this: I wish the movie had more time to develop the story lines. I loved getting to see some of my favorite heros in this movie, but with so many there wasn't nearly enough time to develop all of them or show some of those nitty gritty fights we know and love. There were those fights, but I wish I could have seen more screen time of each hero. Also, certain aspects left me scratching my head with more questions. The story reflects more on the post WWII world and the threat of the cold war and less on the purpose of the main mystery the viewer is fed along the way. It doesn't answer questions of the final threats origins (also known as "the core"). It focuses mainly on the origins of the new additions to the Justice League and the tearing down of mistrust within the country. It also foreshadows heroes we are familiar with and gives a base of their future as well as foreshadows of the modern era comic story lines. The mythology and origins of certian heroes are very different from when they were first published, but it puts a new fresh spin on heros such as the Green Lantern and John the Martian Man Hunter. It proves to be a gem with gritty more adult themes then a simple kids movie and makes you think. It is worth the 4.99. I plan on looking into the graphic novel for a more in depth story line and suggest, if you would like to know more, do the same. If you are satisfied with the movie you don't have to, though. Enjoy!

Enjoyable for comic book fans

For Superhero fans. I was a big fan of the original book, and I think WB has done a good job here in their adaptation.
