Plot Summary

At once universal and personal, this intimate documentary portrait of an Alabama teenage girl on the verge of her high school graduation captures three tumultuous days during which her future is cast into doubt. Eighteen-year-old Kati Genthner is followed, moment-by-moment, from her last day of school, as she takes leave of her friends, and prepares to move away with her parents. The center of Kati's life is her love affair with her boyfriend, 21-year-old James, whom she must convince to come with her and leave everything he knows. Beautifully photographed by Sean Price Williams, Kati with an I brings the singular experience of one American teen to life. Literally a lifetime in the making—the director Robert Greene, Kati's step-brother, has been documenting her since childhood—Kati with an I is the moving story about one girl growing up.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: "Kati With an I" transforms one teenager's particular story into a moving portrait of Anygirl, U.S.A. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Apr 7, 2011

Fresh: Greene may intend Kati's story as a quiet tragedy, but the native feeling of that's-just-the-way-it-is lethargy ("Only in Alabama can you be a home-school drop-out") is rather convincing. – Nick Pinkerton, Village Voice, Apr 6, 2011

Fresh: Something universal and touching emerges about youth and hope, particularly in the clips of a shyly smiling child Kati, and in the intense, passionate love that teen Kati holds for James. – Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times, Mar 29, 2012

Fresh: In a way, Kati with an I is the Everyone Else of naive high school love stories, complete with two extended musical numbers and a suitably ambiguous ending. – Christopher Gray, Slant Magazine, Apr 8, 2011

Trivial

And dreary.

Had high hopes for this one.

I don't know what movie the critics watched but this couldn't have been it. It's truly a story about 3 days in the life of a below average teen girl. Not in any kind of deeply intimate setting but more of what a ,not so close, friend would see by fliming you for a few days.

Yawwwwn

And just plain boring. . .
