Plot Summary
The story of a Jewish Bath attendant in late 16th century Russia acts as a metaphor to the Jewish people both then and now. The protagonist - Fishke, believes that duty comes before rights and establishes the first Jewish brigade fighting alongside the Russians in their war against the Poles. With this story of the Rise and Fall of a Jewish warrior leader, and his inevitable struggle against both a divided Jewish community and the hostile masters of his coincidental "homeland," the creators of "King of Beggars" wish to evoke a question regarding the essence of a "new" Jewish identity, one of a free people, who above all, believe in peace and coexistence.
