Plot Summary

Audience favorite at Cannes and Toronto drew a slew of Scandinavian film awards for the region’s star filmmaker Bent Hamer (FACTOTUM). 50s-set film begins as a major Swedish scientific survey of the kitchen habits of confirmed bachelors in rural Norway. Main plot focuses on conflicts between a persistent researcher (Tomas Norstrom) and his loner subject Isak (Joachin Calmeyer) as he has second thoughts about participating in the survey. There's nothing casual about the way this film has been put together, yet that painstaking care leads to laughter that is completely unrestrained” – Turan, LA Times“What a pleasure it is not to be hectored by a director as we laugh our own little laughs, watching a profound story unfold” –Schickel, Time

Fresh: A thoroughly charming oddity. And, in the end, a moving one, too. – Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Don't expect a profound dish. Do prepare for a light meal with enough oddball humor to maintain involvement. – Robert Denerstein, Denver Rocky Mountain News, Jun 24, 2010
