Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Mr. Broomfield doesn't ultimately prove, or even believe, that Mr. Cobain died under incriminating circumstances. But he makes it wrenchingly clear why the world in which he lived had become impossible to bear. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, Apr 11, 2014

Rotten: In the end, too, we've learned very little about Cobain's demons --- his alleged chronic stomach pains from stress, etc. --- or why he, and Nirvana, became so important to so many people – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Jan 14, 2013

Fresh: Unreliable and categorically unfriendly to Love though it is, Kurt & Courtney is thoroughly watchable in a bad car accident, trash TV kind of way. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times, Jan 11, 2013

Fresh: The true circumstances of Cobain's death remain cloudy, but one comes away from the film unnerved by the distance travelled. – Daphne Merkin, New Yorker, Apr 11, 2014

Was Kurt's Death a Suicide?

This film gave me chills. This eerie documentary investigates the apparent suicide of Kurt Cobain. Interviews with conspiracy theorists, Courtney's former boyfriends and estranged parents suggest that she may have had Kurt killed. Though the film does not provide definite answers to the cause of Cobain's death, it is chilling to watch the metamorphous of Kurt's life from a little boy full of dreams living in a small Washington town to a haze of drugs and heartache.

Thought-provoking and insightful

This is a documentary providing a unique look at Kurt Cobain's death and the various conspiracy theories surrounding it, particularly those that say Courtney Love hired someone to kill Kurt Cobain. What I really liked about it is the way it doesn't try to force any particular viewpoint on you and lets you consider the facts for yourself. Exclusive interviews with many insiders- friends and exes of Kurt and Courtney, Courtney's father, Kurt's aunt, Tom Grant, etc. I'd reccommend it to anyone wanting an in-depth look at the subject, but it may be a little dry if you're not THAT interested in Kurt, Courtney, Nirvana, etc. p.s. To the person who it was lame because the filmmaker never asked Courtney the questions- that's kind of the point of the movie that he was so intimidated by Courtney that despite months of planning, when he actually met her he lost his nerve.

Awful

I want my money back. This is so bad. They have more than one opportunity to ask Courtney the questions they want to ask her and both times they back down and just do not ask her. It would be a terrible question to ask her but it is the premise of the whole documentary. This is painful to watch because of the content, but also because the film maker seems to have no idea to what he is doing. This is very very bad.
