Plot Summary
May Robson plays Apple Annie in Frank Capra’s wonderful and enduring comedy/drama, based on a short story by Damon Runyon, with a hilarious and heartwarming script by Robert Riskin. When Louise (Jean Parker) announces that she plans to visit her mother to introduce her aristocratic fiancé, Apple Annie’s friends, including gangster Dave the Dude (Warren William), Judge Henry D. Blake (Guy Kibbee) and Missouri Martin (Glenda Farrell), rally around to transform her from a poor street peddler into the society matron her daughter is expecting to see.

So cute!
This was so cute and funny! I laughed out loud at all the banter and snappy one-liners. The actors are amazing, and you may recognize a few faces from Capra's other films. Classics are still the best; in fact, they just improve with time. Today's fare can't hold a candle to the class, charm, and pure sweetness of these oldies-but-goodies. Sure, it has a little of that kookiness of most 30's movies, but to me that's part of its appeal. Think of this one as a screwball version of My Fair Lady - that's basically what it is. Recommended for any Capra or classics fan!
