Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: With his work beginning to seem as insular as the communities he's imagining, Shyamalan really needs to try directing someone else's screenplay.
Rotten: The story is so convoluted and ultimately preposterous that you're almost embarrassed by the earnestness of the actors trying to carry it off.
Rotten: An act of spectacular (if unwitting) self-immolation.
Rotten: It is yet another of Shyamalan's attempts to wade into the deep end of the profundity pool, where not even chlorine can kill the brackish residue of his design.

Amazing!!!!!
I love M. Night Syamalan! All of his movies are excellent, with great plots, character developement, and incredible twists (especially at the ends). Some people I know found this movie to be one of their least favorites, but many say it was excellent, as do I. I would give it 6 stars if that were an option. Very unique. Enjoy watching!
deeper than what's on the surface
Before I watched the movie, I heard horible things about this movie. The ending's a letdown, the characters were unrealistic. But now after having seen the movie, I would have to wholy disagree. Suspenceful at times, yet the deeper meaning in this movie, the backstory only just hinted at, makes it worthy to be watched over and over again. Well done M. Night Shyamalan.
Least understood
This is one of his best and least understood films. If you are a fan of M. Night's films then the meaning and subtext will not be lost one you; he is a very spiritual man and it shows in his work.
In my opinion this film is well shot, written, and directed. The casting is spot-on, and location is perfect.
Some people like to compare one of his films to another, but you can't do that with M. Nights work. Each one is a progression of spiritual growth and understanding. Each stands alone. Each one a jewel to be savored again and again.
Lady in the Water is a wonderful addition to his directorial work.
