Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Taking up the divided, anxious state of post-9/11 American life, Wim Wenders's new film is like a clumsy, well-meaning intervention in a family quarrel. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: Wim Wenders' first fiction featurefeature since 2000's The Million Dollar Hotel, rocky but respectable Land of Plenty proves the helmer often does better with low budgets, fast schedules and young collaborators. – Leslie Felperin, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Hampered by an ending that overreaches needlessly, the film is nevertheless worthy and unmistakably the effort of an enduringly distinctive and important filmmaker. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Sep 20, 2007

Fresh: The sense of wonderment and desire for understanding that envelop the old soldier and the young disciple create a mood of profound optimism. – Ray Bennett, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

Customer Reviews

a unique, important 9/11 movie

This was a very watchable movie that had a perfectly appropriate and emotional ending. Michelle Williams gives a warm, endearing performance and Wenders' take on the emotioanl state of post 9/11 America is tasteful and accurate while avoiding the cliche trap. He presents his moral lessons and opinions tastefully without being preachy. It keeps its suspense until the end and leaves you feeling very optimistic.

The only 9/11 movie worth watching

Only a director as smart as Wem Wenders could take on the topic of 9/11 and it's effect on the American people. Land Of Plenty is not a conspiracy, action, or disaster movie. It is a movie about humanity. Michelle Williams and John Diehl give superb performances as an niece and uncle with different takes on 9/11. Land of Plenty is a touching and optimistic film I would recommend to anyone.
