Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: This dull, dawdling film, adapted from Francoise Dorner's novel "La Douceur Assassine," eventually succumbs to sentimentality.
Rotten: "Last Love" sticks to a flaccid middle ground lacking any real drama or pathos.
Rotten: This somber work about the worthiness of living has little life in it.
Rotten: It almost feels like the film splits into two separate stories in the second half.
Customer Reviews
Not perfection but close.
Despite a less than original plot, the film was visually pleasuring and acted superbly by the two leads. Sir Michael Caine is superb and Clemence Poesey was flawless. Not perfection but close.
Great acting, very philosophical
Really enjoyed this. Good philosophical messages tucked underneath some very good acting. A few rough spots about 2/3 of the way through the movie. Maybe I missed something, but Gillian Anderson’s character really didn’t add much.
Sir
A subtle, touching, delightful and loving movie. Caine is wonderful, Clemence Poesy is a discovery. Wonderful to see writer/director Sandra Nettelbeck in high form.
