Amazing project!
This project is amazing. The first transmedia project of Brazil, with Alice Braga, from CITY OF GOD and I AM LEGEND. This is the feature cut, a romantic story shot in 8 cities. Beautiful scenes.
Almost Perfect, yet Disappointing
The film is the unification of an episodic construction, edited into a whole. It generally works because it is episodic and elliptical in design. However, because of reticence to explore the erotic in a very modern journey that is the plot, this film, episodic or whole, lacks the essence of what happens to the characters. Passion and physical love are altering them. Yet, we never feel or see that erotic influence.
As we are engaged with the two lovers, the parallels from our own lives are not PG-13. No heat exists. This is too toned down in Latitudes. Only once or twice are there anything remotely erotic on the screen.
I found the dressing and kissing repetitive and ultimately repressive. You get a feel that everyone agreed to make a family film about an adult matter. She buttons up, they kiss. Next stop?
The resulting story is about air travel and destinations, the 'jet lag' and 'lost baggage' feel is self-censorship. Especially, since the bloodlines of the Bragas comes from aunt Sonia Braga . . . how did this potential get left at the runway?
Latitudes should have been exhilarating. It never got off the ground.
You want to see the unexpurgated version if it exists.
Waste of time
No story, and surely no chemistry between the actors
