Rotten: [A] tame exercise in hedonism and self-discovery.
Fresh: If there is one reason to see Laurel Canyon, it's to witness McDormand in the kind of role she's long deserved.
Fresh: Thanks to the performances and the general looseness of the script, the movie is more appealing than it has any business being.
Fresh: Laurel Canyon's end isn't entirely satisfying, but the story works.

A Fantastic Find...
A film that is both comedic yet something that definately makes you question where you are at in life. Christian Bale and Kate Beckinsale both give passionate, truthful representations of two people trying to figure out themselves and their relationship, whilst Frances McDormand leads the cast with a wonderful and hilarious performance. The film is guided by an ingenious soundtrack and the scripting is edgy but beautiful. Enjoy.
Not as bad as come would say
This film was certainly not as bad as avantmom suggests by her review. I would have liked to have heard what in particular she disliked about the movie. It couldn't have been the production values, and I'm thinking it must have been the portrayal of certain lifestyles and the exploration of themes that turned her off. I would have thought that anyone who disliked a movie would back up their dislike with concrete and specific details. Although I didn't agree with the life choices some of these people had made and I wouldn't want to live the sort of life portrayed in the film, I recognize it as a smart movie that presents the universal problem of how one deals with one's origins and becomes their own person. The script is smart, the acting is well-executed, and the film has something to say. It's worth the rental if anything.
I loved this movie!
This is a great movie, the actors in this flim did a superb job. I am a huge Christian Bale fan and he always seems to be amazing in all the films he is in. He is not a one dimensional actor like a majority of the actors now a days. I highly reccomend this film you will be delighted!
