Fresh: Those concerned with obesity issues may find "Lbs." authentic and inspirational. Otherwise it's an earnest little low-budget indie without much to distinguish it. – Mike Hale, New York Times, Apr 22, 2010

Fresh: The intimately personal chronicle is more impressive for Famiglietti's disarming self-exposure than for any fully formed cinematic style or consistency of tone, but the modest production has a genuine, warm spirit. – David Rooney, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Lbs. addresses its all-too-relevant topic with subtlety, sensitivity and welcome doses of humor. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Matthew Bonifacio's idiosyncratic portrait of one man's struggle to get control of his appetites. – Michelle Orange, Village Voice, Jun 24, 2010

Not for everyone, almost feels like a documentary. The characters are very believable as is the portrayal of addiction. Some of the acting is pretty incredible (I even went on IMDB to see if there were 2 actors for the lead role). There are funny moments but calling it a comedy might be a bit misleading. Overall, pretty interesting film.

Well worth the watch

When I saw the preview, I thought it was going to be more of a comedy with "characters". I was pleasantly surprised to to see this movie has some real depth. It definitely has it's funny parts, but it's more of a human, real life funny. It also has its share of emotional dramatic moments. Also, to see the real life transformation of the actor gives you a real connection to the character. I found myself really happy and impressed for the movie character as well as the real actor to drop that much weight.
The pace was slower than most mainstream films, which makes character development pretty rich.

Overall, well done. I nice little hidden gem.

Great movie.

The movie has a great story, as time goes on… it gets better and better… at the end you'll really be glad you saw the whole thing…
