Plot Summary
Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent (Iris) and Lindsay Duncan (About Time) give exquisite performances as Nick and Meg, a long-married British couple revisiting Paris for the first time since their honeymoon in an attempt to rekindle their relationship. During a two-day escapade, wistful Nick and demanding Meg careen from harmony to strife to resignation and back as they take stock of a lifetime of tenderness and regret. A surprise invitation from Nick’s old friend Morgan (Jeff Goldblum), a hilariously boorish academic with a newly published book and fancy Parisian digs, soon leads them to an unexpectedly hopeful vision of what their love and marriage might still become.Directed by Roger Michell (Notting Hill) and written by longtime collaborator Hanif Kureishi (Venus, My Beautiful Launderette), this magically buoyant, bittersweet film is at once brutally honest, sharply comedic, and undeniably romantic.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Since it's Broadbent, Duncan and Goldblum doing the skipping, trashing and mimicking, their second adolescence is great fun to watch.
Fresh: It's easy to tire (if not despair) of them, but both lead actors are in fine sparring form, and the story is rescued and revived, just in time, by a delectable cameo from Jeff Goldblum.
Fresh: This film doesn't feel obliged to pick a winner or lob easy answers; it aims to observe, with humor and humanity, with penetration and without oversimplifying.
Fresh: Wisely, director Roger Michell ("Notting Hill") does not burden Hanif Kureishi's literate, witty and emotionally nuanced script and the impeccable performances with an attempt at personal style.
Customer Reviews
I love the honesty in this film.
They just say and do the things that really happen in marriages. They are openly and sometimes, cruelly honest with each other and that's what makes their marriage AND the movie work. I loved it!
Fun Fun
It was an adventure I enjoyed taking with the characters. Have felt many of the same feelings as she has and he as well. Watch this Film. Good Fun
A Fine Film More Than Worth a "Mature" Viewer's Time
One of the best films available for download. Well-written, acted, and mature in its intention. Don't believe the rare disappointment expressed by viewers who are obviously too young to appreciate this honest and realistic film about marriage and what happens to some people later in life when they look back across the years and then around at where they are. The result is a satisfying metaphor that sets all of us who have lived past fifty squarely on our feet in the middle of the kind of happiness that anyone would embrace because it doesn't cost a dime. More than worth your time and the asking price for admission. But if you can't concentrate for more than five minutes don't rent this film. While it demands of you attention to detail, it is engaging and doesn't tie the story up in details. Who among us really would't want to find ourselves in this couple's shoes where love is anytime you're happy. Jeff Goldblum's character is so generous as is his performance.
