Plot Summary
Sam Elliot drew waves of accolades for his sensitive and sexy portrayal of the aging lifeguard who's compelled to reassess his life and career as a professional lifeguard. To keep things status quo or pursue things status-conscious - that's Elliott's dilemma. It's an agonizing decision compounded on one side by an adoring beach groupie (Breakdown's Kathleen Quinlan) and on the other by a former high school flame (Fatal Attraction's Anne Archer) who's game for rekindling, but only if he's serious about trading in his swimsuits for three-piecers.

A classic!
I saw this movie in 1976 when it first came out and was instantly impressed! Sam Elliot's character Rick faces the ultimate struggle in this movie. And as Anne Archer's character Kathy so bluntly asks him: "do you move up, or out?", we then see how Rick arrives at his decision, which is to do what's right and what works..for him. I love this movie, and in my opinion it's one of Sam Elliot's absolute best performances!
