Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: If anything, it has hauled back much too briskly on the strings of the heart and has strained a few muscles in the process. Its consequent agony shows. – Bosley Crowther, New York Times, Mar 23, 2011

Fresh: A shade less ambitious than its 1933 predecessor (which starred Katharine Hepburn and Joan Bennett), it still jerks tears with easy efficiency. – TIME Magazine, Mar 23, 2011

Fresh: The tender story, with its frank and unashamed assault on the emotions, still has its effective moments at times when the sentiment doesn't grow a little too thick. – Variety Staff, Variety, Mar 23, 2011

WONDERFUL MOVIE (a timeless classic).

First off I have seen almost all of the adaptations of this movie and read the book and all of its sequels. That being said I was very impressed with this film. My mom showed me this movie when I was about seven and I absolutely loved it! Later I read the book and was surprised at how true the movie was to the book! I know a lot of people were upset that the film makers switched Amy and Beth's ages (making Amy older). To tell the truth I didn't really notice until someone told me. Of corse there are some differences from the book, but aren't all movies like that? Over all I HIGHLY recommend this movie, it's clean and has great moral values. A great movie for families.
