Plot Summary

Steve Buscemi (Reservoir Dogs), Dermot Mulroney (Copycat), James Le Gros (Bad Girls) and Catherine Keener (Being John Malkovich) star in this inventive, wickedly funny satire of the movie-making business. The leading man has just had a disastrous one-night stand with the leading lady; the cinematographer is breaking up with the assistant director; the director's mother has wandered onto the set; and the dwarf hired for the dream sequence has an attitude. Winner of the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Living In Oblivion proves there is no such thing as smooth shooting when it come to low-budget filmmaking.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: A hip indie version of Truffaut's Day for Night, Living in Oblivion celebrates the very act of filmmaking as grand folly, a triumph of absurdist heroism. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Mar 10, 2013

Fresh: "Oblivion" has a surrealistic, guilty-fun quality. It feels almost too good to be true. – Desson Thomson, Washington Post, Feb 8, 2013

Fresh: So you wanna make a movie? Well, first, you should see "Living in Oblivion," Tom DiCillo's savagely funny satire of the world of independent filmmaking. – Hal Hinson, Washington Post, Mar 10, 2013

Gimme back my eyepatch you *&^!

Classic. Hilarious. Brilliant, even if you've never worked in the film industry. But if you have, prepare to love it all the more. Can't recommend this enough, buy it now. -Wolf-

Another Steve Buscemi gem

If you love Steve Buscemi films, and who doesn't, you'll certainly want to collect this treasure.
Lots of people who have made it big in Hollywood in this indie about the frustrating experience of trying to make a small film
From Catherine Keener and the female lead in the film being made to Dermot Mulroony in a standout role as the idiosynchratic cameraman, the characters abound and will leave indelible memories for the viewer.
Very funny from the opening sequence, Steve Buscemi is, again, shown to be a guy who can make films for film lovers.
I caught this film quite by accident but have never forgotten it. I suspect you'll have the same experience.

One for the ages

Still great after all these years

Love this movie. When I first saw it, I had just finished getting my MA in Cinema Studies. "Living in Oblivion" doesn't miss a beat or a single note in depicting - and spoofing - the world of earnest young cineastes with a "vision." The dwarf is a constant reminder of David Lynch's silliness in Twin Peaks and some of his films.

Just love it. Downloading it now.
