Plot Summary

America's prisons are the most crowded in our nation's history and they hold more people per capita than any other country in the world. Credit the draconian Rockefeller Drug Laws which mandate minimum sentences of 15 years to life for first-time offenders. Lockdown, USA follows the reform efforts of an unlikely coalition: outraged mothers, the hip-hop community under the leadership of Russell Simmons and former NAACP head Dr. Benjamin Chavis, Andrew Cuomo, and comedian turned political activist Randy Credico. Interwoven with their fight, is the moving struggle of Wanda Best, whole husband Darryl, was sentenced to a 15 year term under the Rockefeller laws.

America's Shame

It's pitiful 2 call someone standing on a U.S. city street a 'Drug Trafficker'. This country has the resources 2 stop drug way B4 they get to the Inner-City. But, the Government along w/the media, put this image on the tube so much that middle Americans buy into in, Lock, Stock, & Barrel. Now what U have is people inside prison, who shouldn't B. I remember a time in mmy life when U knew all the criminals in your neighborood. Now, criminals R trained 2 B criminals after they go 2 prison. Because they weren't criminals B4 they were convicted of the so-called drug offense they were locked-up for N the 1st place. It's just not New York laws, it's the perception of the people of this nation. Spend more money 2 lock people up, so we can spend more money 2 take care of them & their families, so we can spend more money on prisons, & police, & judges, etc... It's PITIFUL!!!
