Plot Summary

When 29-year-old Lola (Gerwig) is dumped by her fiancé Luke (Joel Kinnaman) just three weeks before the wedding, she embarks on an emotional, year-long adventure of self-discovery filled with love, loss, hilarity and heartache. Rotten: A well-intentioned indie that tries to be a "real" version of a Hollywood romantic comedy and ends up feeling more ersatz than ever. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Jun 14, 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie!

I'm not sure what the bad reviewers were watching. I saw a fun, well thought out and totally relatable romantic dramedy. The directing was great, Zoe Lister-Jones was hilarious and the guy who played Henry was also a good fit. the subject matter was relevant and the storyline was realistic... Something you won't find in the big Hollywood releases. I say watch it for yourself, you'll see...

Loved it—I've been there—so true

Just look at the "rotten" reviewers—all dudes. I loved this little film, and now I really wish I'd seen it in the theater when I first heard about it. I'm an SF-dwelling female in her 30s who was dumped by her fiancé a couple years back. Trust me, it rings plenty true—heart-achingly true in some scenes, actually. It brought a lot of that first year back—but in a good way, because I've grown past it now. The screenwriters nailed it, and I'll definitely keep an eye out for what they do next.

Funny, sad, relatable

First, any movie that has a reference to Jessie Spano's caffeine freak out on Saved by the Bell, gets a thumbs up from me!

But seriously, I am hard to please when it comes to movies, but Lola Versus was fantastic. So fantastic that I watched it twice, which is a rarity for me as I have a hard time sitting through a movie just once.

Greta Gerwig (Lola) does a nice job as the lead and creates a very real, confused, and likable character that I think many people can relate to at some point in their lives. The fact that she is just plain adorable doesn't hurt either. Zoe Lister Jones (Alice) is great too.

The humor in Lola Versus is sometimes quite subtle. To truly appreciate the movie, you have to really pay attention to catch the pieces of genius throughout this film. I found it even better the second time around because I missed some things the first time I watched it.

The ratings on Rotten Tomatoes does NOT do this film justice. When a movie like The Hangover gets four stars on Rotten Tomatoes, it really gives you perspective on the humor that is appreciated by the reviewing audience of that website. Don't take offense people, all I am saying is that Lola Versus has a more sophisticated style that is not appreciated by everyone.
