Plot Summary

In LORD BYRON (Sundance 2011, NY Times Critics Pick), a deadpan Greek tragedy set in South Louisiana, a cast of bizarre, comedic characters, led by newcomer Paul Batiste, pursue uncommon dreams and missions of their own making. Director Zack Godshall (Low and Behold, God's Architects) and co-creator Ross Brupbacher share a kaleidoscopic world seen through the bloodshot eyes of Byron, a quixotic philosopher-poet and bayou Don Juan who seeks spiritual fulfillment by any means possible.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Against all reason, Byron's televangelist-led quest for clarity compels us to follow, the film's melting, naturalistic images softening the occasional scream of dialogue repeated beyond all necessity. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, May 6, 2011

Rotten: Vacillating between free-associative shtick and complete inertia, Lord Byron is lost in thought and allergic to reason. – Michael Atkinson, Village Voice, May 3, 2011

Fresh: Lord Byron manages to turn nonsensical gibberish into a captivating soundtrack for the equally fragmented stories of the strangers living in the same home. – Diego Costa, Slant Magazine, May 9, 2011

Just for you...

If I had to give a pitch I would say this movie is a bit like, A Serious Man meets Napoleon Dynamite... and though somewhat accurate that description really doesn't do, Zack Godshall or his beautiful transcendent film justice. Like the title character Byron who feels that something may have moved the televangelist he watches to write a sermon just for him because he needed to hear it... you may feel something moved Zack Godshall and the others involved in Lord Byron to make this movie just for you.
