Plot Summary

When their plane crashes, 25 schoolboys find themselves trapped on a tropical island, miles from civilization. At first, they welcome their new freedom. But soon they discover that trying to survive is anything but fun and games. Ralph and his friend, Piggy, organize the boys according to the values of the civilization they left behind. Working together, they have a better chance of getting food, getting water and getting rescued. But another boy, Jack, embraces the savagery of his new surroundings. One by one, he lures the other boys into his camp. Donning war paint and spears, everyday life becomes a spectacle of sadistic games, rituals and punishments.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The symbolism is right up front and unmissable, and the story part -- the events that in theory should cause our throats to tighten and our pulses to quicken -- is pretty lame. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jun 24, 2010

Terrible adaptation...I'm actually kind of shocked.

I gave this movie two stars liberally. The problem with this movie is that it has "Lord of the Flies" as its title. This is not a true adaptation to the original novel by William Golding, and I'd like to think he may have shook his head contemptuously if he had seen it. The characters are not true to form (Piggy is just not Piggy), the events do not occur nearly as cohesively or as beautifully as the novel portrayed them, and many of the major motifs are lost to shoddy screenplay and acting. The thing is, this could have been so, so much better. A more faithful rendition would be welcomed, but I just can't give this version more than two stars.

Well....

This version is better than the 1963 version, but the book still trumps it. if i were you, i would buy the book with your ten dollars instead of the movie

wow

This movie is super cool.
