Plot Summary
In the United States, more than 2500 individuals are serving life-without-parole sentences for crimes they committed when they were 17 years old or younger. Children as young as 13 are among the thousands serving these sentences. LOST FOR LIFE tells the stories of these individuals, of their families' and of the families of victims of juvenile murder. The result of four years of Rofé’s intensive effort, this searing documentary tackles this contentious issue from multiple perspectives and explores the complexity of the affected individuals’ lives. What is justice when a kid kills? Can a horrific act place a life beyond redemption?

A serious look inside a difficult and fascinating topic
'Lost for Life' gives viewers an unprecedented look into what life is like for pre-adults sentenced to death row or to life in prison. As the movie follows several inmates, the movie begs several personal and provocative questions. This movie may or may not make you rethink the effectiveness of the American judicial system, but it most certainly will force you to consider the moral ramifications that it has on inmates, their families, and their victims' families as well. A thought provoking film that is well worth the watch.
Dark yet fascinating
I had to break up watching this movie over a few viewings since the topic is pretty depressing, but the stories are incredible. The film as a documentary is very well done, and the overall story leaves you thinking about how we handle incarcerated youth.
Raises important questions
At a time when so many questions about the effectiveness and ethicalness of our penal system are up for discussion, this documentary offers a rare look into perhaps the most disturbing sector of the prison population: juveniles on death row. Compelling, thought-provoking and topical.
