Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Lost in Translation revels in contradictions. It's a comedy about melancholy, a romance without consummation, a travelogue that rarely hits the road.
Fresh: Very much a mood piece, the film's deft balance of humor and poignancy makes it both a pleasurable and melancholy experience.
Fresh: With this film it becomes clear that Sofia Coppola is a filmmaker with eyes all her own.
Fresh: Of course, Mr. Murray gets all the laughs with his exquisite timing and wry delivery, but Ms. Johansson makes an eloquent and charismatic listener.

Only an idiot would not LOVE this movie!
Seriously one of the best movies in the last decade. The beautiful simplicity with which it celebrates the hope and despair of life will resonate with you. The acting is billiant but not overdone. It captures perfectly the way that an American first experiences Japan in the midst of a subtle, but often hilarious, love story.
Like a great song
I just watched this movie for the third time, and I still love it. It's more like a song than a movie, in that it successfully creates an inner mood which is equally or more important than the overt plot. All kinds of life assumptions are called into question, and somehow Sofia Coppola manages to retain compassion amidst the inner tension and outer absurdity. The two main characters only truly embrace at the very end, but nevertheless this is perhaps the most romantic movie I've ever seen.
incredible movie
I just watched this movie and it has skyrocketed to one of my favorite movies now. Something about this movie was mesmerizing. You get lost in it. Anyone who tells you this movie is anything other than great is one who likes their movies all wrapped up in a bow, packaged like everything else, and follows the lame american formula of normal-brainlessness. Everything about this movie is amazing....the acting, the cinematography, the humor, the music, the story, everything. This might be my favorite performance of Murray and Johansson is unbelievable. Great film. Period.
