Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Loverboy, the shaky second feature directed by Kevin Bacon, stars Kyra Sedgwick as a single mother whose possessive instinct runs amok. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Rotten: I never really bought Loverboy, and unconvincing delusional cruelty is not what you would call a memorable night out. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Too many visual gimmicks and a cast overburdened with big names in small roles soften Victoria Redel's acclaimed debut novel. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Loverboy may have been better suited to the page where it could have the subtlety and resonance missing on screen. As a film it works on only one level -- crazy love. – James Greenberg, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

Surprisingly Pretty Good

This story is about one womans search for unconditional love. Kyra Sedgwick plays a woman desperate for love after having lived thru a childhood where she was neglected and some would say abused by her unusual parents. She looks for love in all the wrong places and eventually decides to have a child that she believes will love her completely, unconditionally, and that will be bound to her forever. After finally getting pregnant and having a little boy she is happy while he is still very little and has to depend on her for everything but she soon falls apart when her little boy starts school and begins to become more independent and need her less. The story is dramatic and at the same time interesting in a psychological way as you watch the madness unfold over time. Kyra Sedgwick shows she has some acting chops and the editing of the movie is pretty decent. Overall a good movie to rent but I would probably not buy it.

Loverboy

Really intense.

POINTLESS!

the plot line was pointless and over acted. Kyra sedgwick is an over emotional loner who babies and over protects her son. The only highpoint of the movie was when Matt Dillon was on the screen and that was only for a few moments. I would NEVER reccomened this film to anyone, unless i absolutley hated them and wanted them to die of boredom.
