Plot Summary
While lots of people dream of winning the lottery, one man hatches a more ambitious plan than just buying a ticket and hoping for the best in this satiric comedy. Russ Richards (John Travolta), a weatherman on a local TV station in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, sells snowmobiles on the side, but both careers are in a rut thanks to an unusually warm winter. Russ's girlfriend Crystal (Lisa Kudrow) appears on the State Lottery's weekly televised drawing, pulling the numbered balls out of the rotating bin. With the help of a few of his less scrupulous friends - among them sleazy strip joint proprietor Gig (Tim Roth), small time hood Dale The Thug (Michael Rappaport), and Crystal's sleazy cousin Walter (Michael Moore) - Russ figures out a way to rig the drawing and have Crystal pull numbers that they happen to own. However, Russ discovers that making the scheme work and keeping everyone quiet about it is more trouble than it's worth. The supporting cast includes Chris Kattan, Ed O'Neill, and Bill Pullman; Nora Ephron, who previously worked with Travolta on the comedy hit Michael, directed.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: [Ephron] seems to condescend to the characters.
Rotten: The laughs are few in this inert, ungenerous comedy.
Rotten: A visually unattractive picture of meager verve and dynamism.
Rotten: Gags hit with sledgehammer heaviness and most of them mock the movie's own characters so relentlessly -- and mirthlessly -- that one winces rather than laughs.

Mildly entertaining
I never heard of this movie until I saw it on iTunes and after watching it I now know why. The story line is somewhat predictable in the way events unfold and the characters are average at best. In a nutshell the story is about about a weatherman (Travolta) working at the local TV station who made some bad investments and is about to lose his life of luxury due to a run of bad luck. Travolta and his shady friend hatch a plan to rig the state lottery and retire rich. The plan involves the station's lottery "ball girl" who is eager to join in. They manage to win the lottery and that's where the problems start. The three end up dealing with the station manager who finds out about their little scam, a local bookie who also finds out and a hit man who wants in on the action. There are some funny moments but this is a movie you only want to watch when you really have nothing else to do and just want to relax in front of the TV. My advice is buy this movie and archive for a really rainy day.
Lucky 7
I love this movie. It is so funny. This is one of Lisa Kudrow's best movie's ever. She is so cool. I am not a fan of John, but he did a good job. Thank You iTunes.
Boring
I watched a short preview of this movie and thought it looked funny so I put it on my iPod to watch during a long road trip. I ended up starting it 3 different times because everytime I tried watching I fell asleep. The first hour was the only part I watched of the movie and finally decided it was just one of those not so great films. I wouldn't recommend it unless someone has absolutely nothing to do on a rainy day.
