Plot Summary

In this electrifying musical drama starring R & B sensation Ciara and Hollywood favorite Lynn Whitfield (The Josephine Baker Story), Ciara plays Amara Winter, a beautiful and divinely talented young gospel singer on the verge of pop stardom. But Amara's mother Lillian (Whitfield), a strong-willed TV preacher, disapproves of her daughter's less-than-pious image. As they search for common ground, mother and daughter may just discover their journeys aren't so different after all. Based on the award-winning off-Broadway musical and featuring R & B legend Patti LaBelle, this joyful celebration of faith and family will put a song in your heart!

Ciara !

This movie is amazing and Ciara did an amazing job in the movie keep it up Ciara ! <3

No Shining Star

This movie had great potential with the co-stars and the history behind the film, but the casting of Ciara did not provide any powerful or memorable scenes. Her acting is elementary at best. The film overall lacked substance. There was nothing to sink your teeth into. Missed opportunities with Hill Harper, Lynn Whitfield and Patti Labelle to showcase their superb acting skills. I wanted it to be great but it lacked a shining lead star.

It was okay

You can definitely tell that it was a stage play. And the transition from stage play to movie was not very smooth. I wish the writer would've added a little more depth to the film, or got a stronger lead actress. The singing was not as moving as I would have liked it to be. But the actor who played Luke did a great job! I was actually in tears when the "bad news" came. I feel that the movie/script has great potential but maybe if they would've spent a little more time on it…or got a different lead actress, then it would've been a little better. But for the most part it is probably a great stage play.
