Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: It's a comedy, a political thriller, a love story: Barry Levinson's Man of the Year tries to be all things to all people and fails on every count -- a little like the generic, ineffectual politicians it's pretending to excoriate. – Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Levinson has written and directed in many genres. But rarely has he made a film as indecisive and diffident as Man of the Year. – Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Man of the Year is longer than the FDR administration, less funny than Calvin Coolidge and deader than Abe Lincoln. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Jul 16, 2008

Rotten: A few observations about the hollowness of party politics, plus Robin Williams doing lots of funny shtick as a Jon Stewart-like comic running for president, have been thrown together with low regard for logic or consistent tone. – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal, Jun 24, 2010

Something to think about .... while chuckling

Especially against the backdrop of the 2011 Republican Primary pre-season this movie manages to hit home. Robin Williams comes across as a sincere - but hilarious - talk show host, finding himself cast into the political spotlight. Decency deserves a place even in politics, at least that is what we should all wish for. Entertaining movie with lots of original jokes from Robin Williams stage shows that raises the question: why could it not be that way?

not good

boring and not a good movie

Irreverant, Funny and Pointed! Loved It!

This movie is a hoot! Robin Williams doing Robin Williams. That's what I wanted, that's what I got. I was laughing tears at some of the scenes. Parts are a little schmaltzy, but I loved the jokes and pointed humor. I loved the plot that included computer errors in the voting process that didn't involve "hanging chads" (which to me are far stranger than a computer glitch, which seems actually plausible). A good popcorn movie and a comedic genious, a good, fun afternoon at the movies.
