Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: This movie isn't just about a kidnapping; it is a kidnapping, and we're the hostages. – Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Intentional or not, Man on Fire's over-the-top evocation of Christian retribution goes a long way to making this otherwise standard revenge fantasy watchable. – David Ng, Village Voice, Apr 28, 2004

Rotten: Suffice it to say nothing about this pumped-up, hyperthyroidal Tony Scott revenge flick makes sense, but it takes two hours to kill off as many people and demolish as many vehicles as Charles Bronson used to do in 30 minutes. – Rex Reed, New York Observer, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Despite a red-hot performance by Washington as the antiheroic, self-annihilating title character, the film as a whole, while possessing a kind of vicious beauty, feels as cold and as embalmed as a corpse. – Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post, Jul 16, 2008

Tony Scott's art is death

I love this movie, I think that Man on Fire and Training Day are Denzel's best movies. The director, Tony Scott, manages to pull off the coolest art direction I've ever see, the movie is like being on an acid trip it just plays with different angles and subtitles, which is very cool. In my opinion there is a part one and part two to the movie, one is before Pita is kidnapped and then we see the real character development in Denzel's character after she is kidnapped. The movie is tough, it makes you think about what you would do to get the person you care for, back. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes dramatic venegence movies. I also recommend American Gangster and Training Day for the Denzel fans. If you're looking for another cool action movie by Tony Scott, Enemy of the State is a good buy.

Amazing

This movie has been my favorite movie for years. It is truly amazing because it keeps your attention and you are always on the edge of your seat. Because this is based on a real events, it makes it 100 % better. The actors did a great job which helped pull this movie together, to make it the amazing movie that it is.

Good Movie- don't get to watch on iPod!

This was a really good movie but it has lot's of subtitles and when I tried to watch on iPod it cut half the stuff off! I missed some of the storyline and it was really annoying.
