Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: With lyrical intelligence and scrappy wit, Coppola creates a luscious world to get lost in. It's a pleasure.
Rotten: Coppola's queen experiences no inner transformation or redemption because, in this telling, she's in no need of it. She's cool to begin with.
Rotten: Dunst plays Marie Antoinette as if she's seen the future and it's Paris Hilton.
Fresh: This is just a lark, a heavy-handed one without the heart of even the bad histories which gave us a Marie who said (as she never did) Let them eat cake.

This movie is AMAZING!!!
I saw this movie a couple nights ago and was BLOWN AWAY!! I personally don't like old black and white films and I
know a lot about Marie Antoinette so I noticed the mistakes and historical innaccuracies but apart from that this movie was an amazing heart wrenching thrill ride way ahead of it's years!! I highly recommend it to anyone who loves old Hollywood glamor or any guy who wants to impress his girlfriend on a first date by showing some culture!! 5 stars is not enough!!!
Great Film!
If you are a big Norma Shearer fan this is the film for you! Those of you familiar with Shearer will see "the look" a bunch in this film, but if you can get around it then it is a fantastic watch! It's got some good acting in it by all of the cast, although it may seem a bit corny at times! Fans of classic movies probably will find this to be well worth viewing!
It Made Me Cry and that doesn
A film that makes me weep is not a bad thing considering I don't often cry (not even at funerals!). I found the romance between Fersen and Marie Antoinette to be too chaste but those were the 30s. What really got me going was the part when the people beheaded Marie Antoinette's husband then took her son away on the SAME day! That really stirred some emotions in me and I started feeling so bad for her especially since in history, the new Republic council made the prince lie about his mother molesting him. I hope they burn in hell for all eternity for that! And Marie Antoinette isn't even my favorite queen in history but she deserves pity and I think this movie evokes such an emotion. A must buy!
