Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: It seems that it's time to admit that dressing actors in LED-studded catsuits, asking them to give performances on sterile white sets and handing the results to a team of computer animators is not a way to make a good movie.
Rotten: The film looks neither fully real nor fully imagined, which could be forgiven if Mars Needs Moms had something more to offer besides its nifty technology.
Rotten: Aside from a relatively brief appearance by Joan Cusack's avatar as the kidnapped mother, there are no involving characters or situations.
Fresh: While Wells's ice-blue color scheme borrows from both "Tron" films and a litany of "Star Trek" episodes, a majestic musical score by the great composer John Powell somehow makes everything old feel fresh and wondrous again.

A TRULY UNINSPIRED FILM
There is really nothing to say about "Mars Needs Moms" other than the fact that it's a bland, unoriginal, and obnoxious retelling of a lesser-known children's book by Berkeley Breathed (the creator of "Opus"). Aside from the undeniably impressive animation, the characters are easily forgettable, the pacing of the story is inconsistent, and the level of excitement and interest is mediocre at best. In other words, nothing in this movie does anything that hasn't been done in countless other animated films. It's a shame that the complete box office failure of "Mars" had to result in the downfall of the studio that produced it (Image Movers Digital), but that's beside the point. There are much better and more entertaining animated movies than this in the iTunes store. Although, if you still aren't sure whether you want to buy or rent this film, just watch the trailer and you'll see what I mean.
LOVED IT!!!!
I loved this movie. Saw it in the theatre and it was a 3rd choice....but after watching the entire movie....I vote it as the years best. This movie has a great moral point in the end and if my 3 year old understood the moral point....so should adults. Thank u for making a movie that was clean, honest, full of forgiveness, love and well....I just loved it. I want to get this movie for Mothers day for my sisters, friends, mom, sister in-laws...basically every mother I know. Whoever wrote this movie must love their mother! Thank u!!!! Thumbs up from me!!!!
unsettling
this movie demonstrates what is fundamentally unsettling yet accurate about the uncanny valley theory.
