Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Film should score OK with hardcore gore fans, but others will expect martyrdom for sticking it out until the end. – Jordan Mintzer, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Martyrs is a groundbreaking work - it challenges the audience to endure heinous acts yet to emerge spiritually cleansed; to witness man's willingness to abuse, degrade and manipulate, yet leave the theatre more enamoured with humanity than ever. – Simon Foster, sbs.com.au, Jul 16, 2013

Fresh: it turns out to be concerned precisely with the nature and reception of extremity, posing uncomfortable questions about what it is that one really seeks in choosing to 'witness' scenes of horrific human abjection. – Anton Bitel, Little White Lies, Dec 1, 2010

Rotten: The air of pretentiousness and the whiff of lesbian chic suggest that the bunch of nihilists who produced this garbage will claim something for it. All it really demonstrates is that there is something seriously rotten in the state of France. – Peter Whittle, Times [UK], Jul 7, 2010

Sick, Twisted, Brutal, Beautiful

This film blew me away. It's got to be one of the best movies I've seen in the last 21 years. I'd put it #1 on my best movie viewings list. It's NOT an easy ride and features some of the most surreal, disturbing, and ULTRA-violent images I've ever seen. But it has a beating heart, soul, and emotional layer that you can't ignore. This movie will move you, as well as send you running to the bathroom with some of the extreme violence. For thoughtful and mature viewers only, even those who don't like horror - because in the end that is not what this really is.

WARNING

This movie is very gruesome/brutal with a fair share of torture scenes. The revelation at the end of the movie is just creepy. It really makes you think. Worth a watch, but not the best movie ever.

Amazing Story and Excelent Actress

This movie is so hard to see 'cause have so many violent scenes with so much blood, shot, cut, abuse, isolation, ect; the concept of the movie is totally RUDE and ROUGH but different for all the horror movie that I saw in my whole life... that make you appreciate the movie in every ways. I highly recommend this movie because have amazing story... greatest actress and totally freak out; you will have your heart racing and will not stop bombing fast and hard.
