Plot Summary

A promising young artist, Max Rothman (John Cusak) lost his arm in the Great War and with it his ability to paint. Upon his return he opens what quickly becomes an acclaimed art gallery catering to modernism. There he runs into another war veteran and struggling artist named Adolf Hitler. Max encourages Adolf to develop his talent and channel his raw beliefs into his art. Penniless and without family or friends, the lure politics soon wins Adolf's interest over art, setting into motion the most cataclysmic period in the 20th Century.

Max

"Max" was a beautiful, fascinating movie, exploring the "what if" of Hitler being steered towards becoming a professional artist by trade. The film is set at a key time in history and in Adolf's life, shortly after the first world war. Germany was largely in ruins in virtually every sense, and the spirit of the country seemed broken by the war's outcome and the treaty which followed. The acting, character depth, and settings were engaging and well done, and the movie did an amazing job of pondering a different outcome to history through just one key relationship.
