Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Max just drags on as it drags you down. If you stay and watch the endless end credits, there's a short scene that hints a sequel is coming. That's what I call real pain. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: The moviegoers are passive hostages on a long ride they've taken so many times before. So gameboys are advised to man their PlayStations this weekend; action-movie fans in search of red meat can wait for the inevitably more graphic DVD version. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: You can't help but wonder where the fine actor in The Departed and even Invincible has gone. It's not been a good year for Wahlberg: First The Happening, and now this. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Oct 18, 2008

Rotten: The filmmakers aim their cynicism more at us than at any government or drug company. – Wesley Morris, Boston Globe, Nov 24, 2011

Great action flick.

I already got to see the unrated version of this movie. Much more bloody action. Very R-rated. Could not even tell it was ever a PG-13 flick. Do yourself a favor and watch the unrated version before dissing the movie. The unrated version is what the theater version should have been.

Good, but Not what I was thinking.

Well This movie is pretty good. With action, flows well together, and a weird story line.If you seen the trailer you think a movie with deamons....well sorta. Its more of a drug that was made for the military to make soliders like Gods,But 99% of people who take it would see deamons and go insane! So when you see the valikers flying arouned its really people. So still a good moive Mark Walkburg played in(better then the happening). So and 4 1/2 stars out of 5 for me.

Totally Freaking Awesome

I just had a great time with this revenge flick. This is a movie you watch for image and sound design, and John Moore delivers. I don't disagree with many reviewers here on several points about likeness to the games (which I completed on every difficulty), certain performances, and plot elements. However I would like to point out that people hallucinate, get shot in slow motion, and blow up occasionally. Enjoy the ride.
