Plot Summary

Nobody knows what to make of May (Angela Bettis). Born with a lazy eye, for which she wore a patch while growing up, she became a loner oddball whose only friend was a perfectly kept doll. She moves to L.A. and takes up with a filmmaker (Jeremy Sisto), but the relationship sours quickly -- and dangerously. She then befriends an alluring lesbian colleague (Anna Faris), but that, too, along with every connection May attempts to make, turns deadly.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Led by Ms. Bettis's discreetly campy May, the performances are a cut or two above what you would find in the average slasher film. But in the end that's all it is. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: Taps into a furious atavistic energy that reflects well on the filmmaker and his fully committed cast. – Entertainment Weekly, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Unfolds with the creepy elegance and carefully calibrated precision of a Dario Argento horror film. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: A refreshing, macabre tale. – Robert K. Elder, Chicago Tribune, Jul 7, 2010

Original, Disturbing, and Entertaining, A Must For Horror Fans

First of all, I have to say that I love horror movies, specifically slower paced horror movies that build, and build, and have an amazing payoff at the end. This movie is a lot like Rosemary's Baby and Psycho when it comes to pacing. However, I must warn you, if you are squeamish this may be a bit to much for you. It's not the goriest film out there, but the ending is deeply disturbing and may leave a bad taste in people's mouths. But, if you love well done horror movies with a morbid sense of humor, I would definetly check this movie out.

sickly disturbing.

i am a HUGE horror movie fanatic and i must say that this movie straight up freaked me out. despite how weird may is you have a tendancy to empathize with her and feel for her with her twised desire and all. if you like sick, twisted, creaky girls in movies i would suggest it to you. i only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the whole plot was a bit weak in places and i wanst fully captivated at times which is what i look for in movies.

like May's *friend*, its perfect

It's not the type of movie where you'll keep checking under the bed and in the closet, its the type where you'll feel creeped out for days afterward and have self esteem issues. Think Rosemary's baby, slow paced, physco pathic, and incredibly morbid. Except unlike Roemary's baby, this will make you feel satisfied.
