Plot Summary

When narcotics detective Eugene 'Mack' McCanick (David Morse, "The Green Mile") discovers that Simon Weeks (Cory Monteith, "Glee") has been released from prison, he instigates a brutal manhunt, without permission from the Chief of Police (Ciarán Hinds, "There Will Be Blood"). The frenzy of paranoia and violence that follows pushes Mack and his partner to the edge of the law. The closer Mack gets to his prey, the closer he gets to a secret from his past - one that only Weeks can expose.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The dour "McCanick" banks way too much on what it is not telling us, making for a movie that thinks it's being cryptically suspenseful but is really just annoying. – Neil Genzlinger, New York Times, Mar 20, 2014

Rotten: A fine performance by Cory Monteith isn't enough to salvage this drably derivative, infuriatingly improbable police drama. – Andrew Barker, Variety, Sep 9, 2013

Rotten: The premise that bruised feelings can get blown so far out of proportion and propel a veteran cop to risk his reputation and jettison his entire career is simply preposterous. – Martin Tsai, Los Angeles Times, Mar 20, 2014

Rotten: [A] numbingly inert series of dirty-cop cliches that abruptly builds to an ephemerally poignant climax. – Inkoo Kang, Village Voice, Mar 18, 2014

McCanick

This was a very moving film. Cory Monteith delivered a phenomenal performance as Simon Weeks and showed bravery and mastery of his craft in taking on this role. Monteith's untimely passing is an enormous tragedy and loss. He was an exceptionally talented performer and an even more exceptional person.

Great looking, but half baked

Some fun things in this flick, but ultimately pretty half-baked and unfocused with a lot of very on the nose moments and dialogue.

Cory Monteith

I just love Cory and miss him so much, it was a hard loss for all Gleeks the whole cast of Glee his family and especially Lea Michele
