Plot Summary
This fascinating and award-winning documentary explores 200 years of the craft of butchering, examining the changes in the meat industry and the renaissance of modern butchers. “Meat Hooked” follows three current butchers in the New York area, revealing a new generation of craftsmen who are interested in sustainability, affordable organic and grass-fed meat, humane slaughtering practices, and a nose-to-tail philosophy of using the entire animal. Featuring interviews with “Julie and Julia” author Julie Powell, filmmaker John Sayles, and veteran as well as up-and-coming butchers, the film examines the desire to return to a more authentic consumer experience, where consumers have a sense of control over their food experiences and what they eat.
