Plot Summary
Woody Allen, one of the most respected filmmakers on the international film landscape for over three decades, explores some of his most beloved terrain in Melinda and Melinda. The twist is introduced in the film's opening scene, in which four sophisticated New Yorkers enjoy a dinner out on a rainy night. An anecdote provokes a discussion between writers Max (Larry Pine) and Sy (Wallace Shawn) about the dual nature of human drama, symbolized by the comedy, tragedy mask of theater. Ultimately a comic tale unfolds, pitted against a more dramatic version of itself-both centered around a somewhat enigmatic woman named Melinda (Radha Mitchell).

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The comic and tragic stories are cleverly intercut, but they're both so inconsequential that it's hard to bring yourself to care which one you're watching.
Rotten: Allen lately has grown tired of complex characters and inventive actors to play them. He appears to be making movies because that's what he's always done, but the love and the ideas and the zip are essentially gone.
Fresh: Sin City is the most gorgeous digital movie ever made. It represents a stunning leap forward in both the technology of digital cinema and the art of filmmaking.
Fresh: The Shawn character says, 'Moments of humor do exist (in life). I exploit them, but in a tragic context.' Allen couldn't have said it better himself.

Very interesting
I loved this movie! It was innovative without being too arty and was interesting without being too rediculous. Lovely movie.
not "WOWWW" ... but pretty entertaining
not really the "that's so Will Ferrel" kind of movie... its more like stranger than fiction... well.. its not bad at all.... ferrell still being himself like usual... the bold, funny, disturbing in sort of funny way...
well just rent it first... then buy it if you really like it.... :)
enjoy
Emotionless
Boring. I had low expectations. The story is bland. Even my wife couldn't stay centered for the entire movie.
Writers discussing a fake story sucked any depth out of the story. Furthermore, two stories that had no emotional overlay sucked any depth out of it.
I love Will Ferrell, and he was very good. Not comedic, but since we know him so well, he was entertaining. I would have enjoyed his Melinda story minus the writers discussion.
It really was a junior high script. I said before renting "it won't be great but it should be, at the least, better than an episode of General Hospital" I WAS WRONG
If you want to see a much better dual story overlay, watch Sliding Doors with Gwyneth Paltrow.
